Akshay-Tiger Starrer Struggles To Catch Blockbuster Openers At Box Office
The big budget action entertainer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring superstars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff has failed to pick up momentum at the box office even after a week of its release. As per reports, the film is yet to surpass the massive opening day collections of last year's hits Pathaan and Animal.
In its sixth day at the theaters, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan collected an estimated 2.25 crores, as per trade sources. This was marginally lower than the 2.5 crores earned on Monday. So far the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial has raked in a total of 45.55 crores domestically. While the worldwide numbers would be higher, it is disappointing given its mammoth reported budget of over 350 crores.
Despite offers like discounted rates and BOGO deals, the action blockbuster has struggled to attract audiences in big numbers. Its day one business of 12.25 crores was overshadowed by Pathaan's record opening day of 57 crores. Similarly, Animal had made over 63 crores on its first day. With collections falling rapidly, it is unlikely for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan to cross even the lifetime numbers of SRK's Jawan.
Unless it picks up in its second weekend when no new major film arrives, Ali Abbas Zafar's ambitious project seems headed to be remembered as one of the biggest box office duds of recent times. With a mounting budget and distributor share to recover, it remains to be seen if the film can post better numbers in its extended run.
