New Delhi, Jan 29: Action has been taken against more than 4,000 people across the country following complaints of irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil said investigation teams were constituted after complaints were received, and their findings were shared with the respective state governments. The action followed reports of poor quality of work, financial irregularities and inadequate water supply under the mission.
Responding to a supplementary question, the minister said most complaints pertained to deficiencies in execution and misuse of funds, prompting corrective and punitive measures against those responsible.
Patil also clarified that grants under the Jal Jeevan Mission are released to state governments, which are responsible for issuing tenders, preparing project reports and ensuring compliance with guidelines laid down by the Centre.
The minister added that the Union government continues to monitor implementation of the scheme closely in coordination with states to ensure accountability and effective delivery of drinking water to households. (Agencies)
