‘Improper cremations compelled us to come forward’
Srinagar, Jun 02 (KNO): United Sikh Forum (USF), a group of volunteers have played a pivotal role during the ongoing second wave of Covid a besides providing foodstuff to the needy, it has cremated almost 29 corpses of Covid patients so far since April this year.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer, Manmeet Singh president of United Sikh Forum, said that the group has cremated the corpses of 29 Covid patients including three non-locals since April this year.
He said since the outbreak of Covid-19, it has cremated 78 dead bodies including four soldiers and eight non-locals while the rest of them belong to the Kashmir division.
“It is in our genes to help the people. Keeping in view of the situation, the group of Sikh under the banner of the United Sikh Forum decided to gear up and help the families who are in need,” he said.
He added that after witnessing the conduct of cremation at different places, they (United Sikh Forum) decided to ensure proper cremation of dead bodies amid the pandemic.
“We have been helping the people by providing them with food and other related material during the lockdown period. We don’t want to see anyone suffering in the prevalent situation and thus try to share out bid in this pandemic,” he said.
