Militants and security forces exchanged fire on Monday morning in Matipur village in the Khanabal area in the Anantnag district of southern Kashmir, the army said.
The Northern Command of the Indian Army tweeted that a “speculative search operation” was launched in the area, some 5 kilometres from Khanabal town followed by a round of fire by the troops at 1100 hours.
The suspected militants fired back at 115 hrs, army said.
