The central government is constantly making attempts to enable the Indian Army personnel posted on the Jammu and Kashmir border to be able to connect to their families. For this, the government has also identified 1409 places where government is installing digital satellite phones. With such facility, soon soldiers will be able to do video calling with their family.
Actually, the government plans to install digital mobile phone terminals at 1409 places which till now it have been installed only in 200 places out of which, 183 are operational. At the same time, the government has provided the necessary equipment to install digital mobile terminals at 763 places.
Call Rates
Army personnel will be charged at a cheaper rate to talk through the new secure network. The government says that army personnel will have to pay a call fee at the rate of Re 1 per minute.
Permission required
But for making such video calls, the decision will be of the commander to allow or disallow such calls based on situation and security reasons. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told News18 that video calls will be available at all places, but the final decision will be made by the Army.
