23 Parties, Independent MP Write to CJI Over EC’s SIR Exercise, Election-Related Concerns

New Delhi, Jun 30: Twenty-three political parties along with Independent MP Kapil Sibal on Tuesday wrote to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, raising concerns over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and other election-related issues.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the joint letter followed a decision taken at the INDIA bloc meeting held on June 8, 2026, where participating parties agreed to approach the Chief Justice over the SIR exercise and the role of the Election Commission.

In a post on X, Ramesh said the Opposition parties remain united under the banner of “SURE” — Solidarity, Unity and REsistance — and confirmed that the letter, signed by 23 political parties and one Independent MP, was sent to the Chief Justice on Tuesday.

Independent Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal is among the signatories to the letter.

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien said the joint representation has also been signed by the Aam Aadmi Party and the DMK.

According to sources, the letter raises concerns not only about the Special Intensive Revision process but also the functioning and role of the Election Commission in election-related matters.

The Congress and several other Opposition parties have been questioning the Election Commission over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. (Agencies)
