Baramulla, Jan 4: Security forces detected and destroyed a hideout during a joint search operation in the Suchliwaran forest area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recovering arms, ammunition and other material, officials said on Saturday.
During the operation, Baramulla Police, in coordination with CRPF 53 Battalion, 46 Rashtriya Rifles and an Army Surveillance Team, recovered 24 rusted rounds of AK-47 ammunition of Pakistani origin and two hand grenades from the hideout.
Officials said the seized items also included a steel canister containing food material, medicines, a wireless antenna and several tools such as a saw, axe, spade, pickaxe and wire cutter, most of which were found in rusted condition.
Daily-use articles recovered from the hideout included umbrellas, shoes, socks, head warm caps, thermocot sheets, a steel bowl, carry bags, clothing items including a jacket and trousers, a blanket, a quilt, about one kilogram of rotten dates and an empty soft drink bottle.
The search operation was conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations), Baramulla, with the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Squad. After completing all legal formalities, the hideout was destroyed on the spot.
Officials said no casualties or injuries were reported during the operation. Police have initiated further investigation to ascertain who had established the hideout and how long it had remained operational. (KNT)
