JAMMU, Jan 4: Weather across Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry over the next two days, with partly cloudy conditions likely to prevail till January 15, while authorities have issued a fog advisory for the Jammu division, warning of reduced visibility over the next three days.
A weather official said January 4 and 5 are forecast to remain mostly dry across Kashmir. On January 6, conditions may turn generally cloudy, with a possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
Plains and lower areas are unlikely to witness any significant precipitation during this period, the official said, adding that brief snowfall may occur only at higher altitudes if cloud cover intensifies.
From January 7 to January 15, weather is expected to remain partly cloudy across the Valley, with no major wet spell or widespread snowfall anticipated, allowing normal activities to continue without major disruption.
Authorities, however, advised people travelling to higher reaches to remain alert to local weather advisories, noting that conditions in mountainous areas can change rapidly during winter. Nighttime temperature drops are expected to continue, suggesting the persistence of cold wave conditions despite limited precipitation.
Meanwhile, an advisory has been issued for the Jammu division, warning of moderate fog over the plains, with dense to very dense fog likely at a few places over the next three days. Officials said visibility may be affected during early morning and late evening hours, particularly in low-lying areas and open highway stretches.
Commuters have been urged to exercise caution, use fog lights, avoid overspeeding and maintain safe distances. Authorities cautioned that foggy conditions may impact vehicular movement on major roads and highways across the Jammu plains and advised people to plan their travel accordingly. (KNT)
