Chargesheet Filed in Alleged Recruitment Scam Involving 1,300 Youth

Srinagar, Dec 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet in a major alleged recruitment fraud case involving over 1,300 trainees from Kashmir before a court in Bandipora district, officials said on Tuesday.

The chargesheet pertains to a 2022 FIR registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and names Ranjeet Prasad, Director of True Dreams Project India Pvt. Ltd. (TDPI), as the accused. He is alleged to have duped trainees by collecting registration fees on the promise of salaried employment that never materialised.

According to EOW, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that TDPI, through its director Ranjeet Prasad, a resident of Maksudpur, Gopalganj in Bihar, conducted a recruitment campaign in Kashmir. During the drive, around 1,300 trainees were engaged through company representatives.

Investigators said the trainees were promised monthly salaries ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,000, but were instead asked to deposit Rs 2,400 each as a registration fee. Despite collecting the money, no salary was paid to the trainees.

During the investigation, it was prima facie established that several innocent students were allegedly cheated and defrauded on the pretext of providing tuition and employment opportunities. The acts and omissions of the accused were found to attract offences punishable under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC.

EOW said the investigation, supported by oral and documentary evidence, has been concluded as proved against the accused. As Ranjeet Prasad failed to cooperate with the investigating agency and could not be traced at the given address, the chargesheet was submitted in absentia before the Court of Sub-Judge, Sumbal, by initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the CrPC.
