Jammu, Nov 21: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced that the NGO Human Resource Development Society (HRDS) will build 133 houses for families in Poonch whose homes were destroyed in recent Pakistani shelling amid rising tensions along the Line of Control.
During his visit to Poonch, the LG said each house will cost Rs 1 million and the entire project will be completed within six months. He said the initiative aims to ensure timely rehabilitation and secure housing for affected families, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to swift reconstruction and comprehensive support.
Sinha was accompanied by senior officials, including J&K Police chief Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir, during the visit. Authorities distributed relief to civilians who suffered losses during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and assured them that damaged homes would be rebuilt without delay. The LG also reviewed overall security in the district.
The rehabilitation push comes after Pakistan targeted civilian areas in retaliation for India’s destruction of nine terror infrastructures across PoJK during ‘Operation Sindoor’. Heavy shelling by the Pakistan Army in Poonch caused civilian casualties, including a senior civil servant, and damaged multiple homes as well as a temple, mosque, gurdwara and Christian school.
India responded by striking Pakistan’s defence installations, damaging 14 military bases deep inside Pakistani territory. (Agencies)
