    Spreading Fake Narratives!

At a crucial time when the security agencies have been working with complete synergy to expose and depose complex terror networks spread across various states especially in J&K, the stand taken by the chief minister Omar Abdullah on a hypothetical condition suggesting that Kashmiri Muslims are being viewed as a terrorist sympathizer is unfounded and undesirable.

Reportedly, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has advocated stringent punishment for all those involved in the “white collar” terror module and Delhi blast case, but urged that innocent civilians should not be harmed and the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be branded as sympathisers of terrorism.

At a time when national security agencies are deeply engaged in combating sophisticated threats, it becomes imperative for political leadership to exercise maturity and caution. Any speculative or loosely worded remarks, especially from individuals occupying constitutional positions, tend to create unnecessary confusion, weaken public confidence, and offer leverage to anti-national elements who thrive on misinformation. Responsible communication should therefore be the cornerstone of leadership, ensuring that societal integrity is preserved rather than undermined.

Without any evidence, it is not at all advisable that the person holding the position of chief minister should stoke baseless fears by propagating ‘fake narratives’ because no agency whether government or even private, institution or a community has made any such blanket claim as being suggested by the man sitting at helm. Such apprehensions by the chief minister show how weak he is psychologically and even politically as he is sharing his unconfirmed speculations in public domain. He should have shown restraint in sharing such groundless ideas because these have the potential to bring alienation among the people he has been pointing towards as they might be engrossed with a speculation that fellow countrymen are looking towards them with suspicion. This is nothing but a disservice towards society in J&K, which should have been avoided by all means. Such assertions not only lack factual basis but also risk damaging the very social harmony and trust that the region urgently needs.

The need of the hour is to identify and isolate the handful of violence mongers threatening peace and tranquility. Instead of misleading the population, the people sitting at helm should take a stand to unite the population and cooperate with security agencies to flawlessly dismantle extremist networks.

The stance taken by the chief minister Omar Abdullah in the aforesaid matter is therefore questionable and need to be rectified by asking the stakeholders to concentrate only on taking head on the elements inimical to peace because everything else is secondary.
