Srinagar, Nov 18: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday morning carried out coordinated predawn raids at multiple locations across Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam as part of a new investigation into terror recruitment, official sources said.
The searches are linked to a freshly registered case involving individuals accused of promoting terrorism, glorifying militant violence and attempting to radicalise women for induction into terror ranks, sources added. Raids are also underway inside Srinagar’s Super Speciality Hospital at Shireen Bagh, conducted under court-issued warrants.
Officials said investigators have uncovered a major Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) connection with the banned Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), formerly led by Asiya Andrabi, who has been jailed since 2018. Dr Umar Farooq and his wife Shehzaada are suspected of motivating and recruiting women in Kashmir on JeM’s directions, with Shehzaada allegedly being used to revive DeM’s activities.
CIK is also probing an online radicalisation network operating through dark-web platforms and overground worker channels. During the searches, investigators recovered incriminating material, including radical and jihadi literature aimed specifically at women.
The raids are ongoing and arrests are expected soon, officials said. Further details are awaited. (Agencies)
