Srinagar, Nov 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said those responsible for the Delhi blast must face the strictest punishment, while cautioning that innocent people should not be unfairly targeted or suspected.
Speaking to reporters at Ujala Cygnus Hospital after meeting the Nowgam blast-injured, Omar said he raised the matter in the Northern Zonal Council meeting, stressing that neither every Muslim nor every Kashmiri should be linked to the incident by default.
Questioning the security breach, he said the public deserves answers on how large quantities of explosives were brought into, stored and handled inside a police station. He called for a thorough investigation into the lapse.
The Chief Minister reiterated that conclusions should not be drawn before the probe is completed and that innocent families must not be dragged into the case. He said compensation has already been released from the CM’s Relief Fund and urged the Home Department to extend support since the blast occurred within a police facility.
Omar added that job assistance for affected families will be processed and directed officials to expedite the required formalities. (Agencies)
