Srinagar, July 25: A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable was injured on Friday after his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was on duty at the residence of former MLA Mohammad Ashraf in Srinagar, officials confirmed.
The constable, identified as Mehraj-ud-din, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The incident occurred in the Pantha Chowk area while Mehraj was reportedly cleaning his service weapon, which went off unintentionally.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and further details are awaited.
