Sunderbani, July 17: One person was killed and three others, including a 9-month-old child, were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a Scorpio and a WagonR on the Bhambla-Kalidhar road on Thursday afternoon, officials confirmed.
The deceased was identified as Mehmoon Ganei, son of Abdul Rafiq Ganei, a resident of Ward No. 6, Thanna Mandi, Rajouri. He was travelling in the WagonR along with his wife Rubina Akhtar and their infant child, who were both critically injured.
All three injured were first taken to the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sunderbani, and later referred to Emergency Hospital Chowki Chowra, before being shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, due to the deteriorating condition of the child.
The Scorpio also sustained heavy damage, indicating the severity of the crash. However, airbag deployment is believed to have saved the lives of its occupants. One injured person from the Scorpio was identified as Uttam Kumar, son of Krishna Singh, resident of Godar Khalsa.
The Bhambla Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after post-mortem at the District Hospital Sunderbani.
Local residents have called for increased vigilance and better traffic control on the Bhambla-Kalidhar stretch, which has witnessed several accidents in recent times.
