Dehradun, Jun 29: The Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for the next 24 hours following a heavy rain alert and a recent cloudburst in Uttarakhand, officials announced on Sunday. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said the suspension is a precautionary measure due to the weather conditions.
Pilgrims have been halted at key locations including Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag, and Vikasnagar. The decision follows a cloudburst at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district. The incident has left nine workers missing at an under-construction hotel site, according to officials. Rescue operations are underway. (Agencies)
