Jammu, March 13, 2025: The Jammu & Kashmir government has successfully retrieved a substantial portion of the encroached land in the region, with 1,539,662 kanals out of a total 1,727,241 kanals reclaimed.
In response to a question raised by MLA Rajiv Jasrotia, the minister in charge informed the Legislative Assembly that the total state land under illegal occupation amounted to 1,727,241 kanals and 8 marlas. Of this, 1,539,662 kanals and 15.5 marlas have been recovered, while 3,13,645 kanals and 12 marlas remain under encroachment. The eviction process for the remaining encroached land is already underway, as per the relevant rules.
The minister further highlighted that the estimated value of the land still occupied by encroachers is around Rs 18,049.6 crores.
Additionally, the revenue department has not transferred any state land to private individuals for the establishment of industrial estates. However, over the past two years, 12,260 kanals and 3 marlas of land have been transferred to the Industries & Commerce Department based on their requests. Furthermore, 129 kanals of state land have been allotted to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in the last two years.
The government’s ongoing efforts to retrieve encroached land demonstrate its commitment to maintaining state land records and curbing illegal occupation.
