LoP Sharma slams Mehbooba for opposing ban on ACC, JKIM

Jammu, Mar 12: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP MLA in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday expressed support for the Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision to ban the Awami Action Committee (ACC) and JK Ittehadul Muslimeen (JKIM). Sharma criticized former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for opposing the move, calling her stance out of step with national interests.

Sharma said, “In J&K, two organizations, Awami Action Committee led by Maulvi Umer Farooq and Ittehadul Muslimeen led by Abbas Ansari, were working against the unity of India. Today, the Ministry of Home Affairs has banned these two organizations, and this is an appreciable decision. BJP welcomes this action, which was taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. No person or organization should be allowed to work against the integrity and solidarity of the country.”

Responding to Mehbooba Mufti’s opposition to the ban, Sharma accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of being built on separatist sentiment, linking it to groups like Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami. “Whenever radical and anti-India parties are targeted, Madam is pained, and the pain shows in her statements,” he remarked.

Sharma also addressed comments by Congress leader Rashid Alvi, who alleged the targeting of Muslims, stating that such parties followed a policy of division and appeasement, which he said was incompatible with the spirit of the Constitution.

The Union Home Ministry has banned both the ACC and JKIM for a period of five years, citing their involvement in separatist activities.
