Reasi, January 30
Instead of making government services seamless for the public, some officials at the revenue department are allegedly creating hurdles for the demand of easy money.
According to reports, a local resident of village Dhanour in Tehsil Arnas of Reasi has written a strongly worded letter to Tehsildar against the officials of the revenue department, alleging demand of money for issuing Fard.
Mohan Singh, son of Balwant Singh, has raised serious allegations of corruption and undue delay in the land registration process.
In a formal complaint, he has claimed that despite fulfilling all necessary requirements, his application for land bearing Khasra number 157/512, submitted on September 12, 2024, has been arbitrarily delayed for over 47 days, well beyond the stipulated 10-day timeline under the J&K Public Service Guarantee Act 2011.
“My application was eventually rejected on October 29, 2024, citing the absence of required documents,” reads the complaint, alleging that the concerned Patwari failed to provide the necessary documents, which was part of his official duty, instead of shifting the burden onto him.
The letter reads, determined to complete the process, he managed to obtain the required land sketch from the DC Office, Reasi, and reapplied for the same on January 4, 2025**.
Mohan Singh further claimed that after reapplying, he was contacted by Girdhawar, who asked him to meet in person.
“Upon visiting the office with a vendor named John Mohammad, I was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 to process his file,” reads the complaint, adding that when he refused to pay the money, he started receiving multiple calls from the vendor, urging him to make the payment.
The letter added that on January 7, 2025, Mohan Singh contacted Girdhawar, requesting an on-site visit for verification.
However, the official allegedly refused, stating that Mohan Singh needed to arrange a vehicle for them, delaying the process further.
“When I insisted, the official assured me of a visit at a later date. However, when the case was reviewed again, it was rejected once again, citing the vendor’s absence as the reason—a requirement,” alleged Mohan Singh in his letter.
He has expressed his frustration over the bureaucratic hurdles and alleged corruption.
He has appealed to the higher authorities to intervene and ensure transparency in the process.
Through his letter, Mohan Singh has urged officials to take strict action against deliberate delays, misuse of power, and demand for bribery in lieu of public service supposed to be delivered by the Patwari and Girdawar concerned..
