Vinay Gupta from J&K’s Kathua makes history as 1st contestant on KBC 16

Jammu, January 22, 2025: The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 16 kicked off with a special celebration to mark the show’s 25-year milestone, with the legendary host Amitabh Bachchan making a grand entry. The highlight of the episode was Vinay Gupta from Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, who made history as the first contestant from his region to appear on the iconic game show.

Vinay, a self-professed biggest fan of Amitabh Bachchan, shared the excitement his son felt about his participation in the show, recounting how his son proudly informed his classmates about his father’s appearance alongside the Bollywood superstar. During their conversation, Bachchan, in his signature style, asked Vinay about the most famous cuisine from Jammu and Kashmir. Vinay quickly responded, “Rajma Chawal,” which Bachchan fondly agreed with, recalling his own memories of the dish from his childhood.

The game continued with the Fastest Finger First round, and Vinay was quickly in the hot seat. The first question he faced for Rs 10,000 was: “Which of these is a part of the same organ as the retina?” Vinay correctly chose “Pupil” as the answer, advancing further in the game.

A memorable moment during the episode occurred when Vinay requested Amitabh Bachchan to recite his famous dialogue from Zanjeer. Bachchan graciously obliged, taking the audience on a nostalgic journey as he shared stories from his early days in Mumbai, including how he was spotted for Zanjeer by the legendary duo Salim-Javed. He humorously recalled his nervousness while delivering the iconic dialogue to veteran actor Pran Sahab, after which he respectfully apologized for any potential offense.

The episode also featured a ‘Super Sawaal’ segment, where Vinay answered the question, “How many states in India have their entire coastline on the west coast?” correctly, choosing “5” and earning the superpower ‘Dugnastraa’.

The show also took a sentimental turn as the makers aired a video with congratulatory messages from actor Anupam Kher and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, celebrating the 25-year journey of KBC and Amitabh Bachchan’s enduring role as its host. A clip from the first episode was also shown, reminding fans of Bachchan’s grand entry at the start of the series.

In a candid moment, Bachchan shared how his family had initially expressed skepticism when he decided to move from film to television. They thought it was a mistake, but Bachchan trusted his instincts and embarked on the KBC journey, a decision that has paid off immensely over the years. He also shared insights into how he decided to host the show after visiting the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire set in London and being impressed by the atmosphere, promising the production team that he would only host the Indian version if a similar environment could be recreated.

This special episode not only marked KBC’s incredible milestone but also celebrated the legacy of Amitabh Bachchan as the show’s host. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from this iconic series!
