Jammu Tawi, Jan 16: Inaugurated recently by the Prime Minister virtually on January 6, the Jammu-Tawi Railway Division will be equipped with modern infrastructure, and as a part of its redevelopment, the number of platforms will increase from three to seven.
Official sources here on Thursday said that redevelopment and yard remodeling of Jammu Railway Station is an ambitious project.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 6 after virtually inaugurating the strategic Jammu Railway Division had also said that the Indian railways are developing on four parameters including modernisation, enhanced facilities, connectivity, and employment,” sources said.
They added that following the same, Jammu Railway Station under its redevelopment and modernisation will soon have an increased number of platforms from three to seven.
Official sources said that besides platforms, the number of washing pits will also increase from three to five with enhanced line capacity and reception-departure facility.
“Moreover, all the platforms will be equipped with washable aprons which will improve cleanliness and hygiene scenario at the platforms,” they said.
The Prime Minister notably, had also said that the Indian railway is developing infrastructure modernisation, hi-tech facilities for passengers, better connectivity, and generating employment.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on Wednesday authorised the opening of the newly constructed 17-km long Katra-Reasi rail track for the public carriage of goods and passenger traffic to fulfill the dream of connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari through railway, railway officials said.

The new division is expected to bring substantial benefits to Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring areas, fulfilling a long-standing demand for improved rail connectivity with the rest of India.
