Patients in limbo as Muhammadia Nursing Home’s OT remain sealed

Srinagar, 18 Sep (CNS): After the sealing of an operation theater at Muhammadia Nursing Home Pulwama following the death of a female patient allegedly due to medical negligence, dozens of surgeries have been cancelled at the health facility, leaving patients in limbo. One of the patients told the news agency that he was scheduled to undergo prostate surgery at the Muhammadia Nursing Home and was taken aback to know that his medical procedure could not be performed amid the existing situation. “Patients, who were given dates for their surgeries, are facing problems amid the closure of the operation theatre. I am requesting authorities to kindly give a second thought to the decision as patients like me are in quandary now,” he added.  Speaking on behalf of other patients, he added that they all are constrained to get surgical procedures at Muhammadia Nursing Home Pulwama as it would be hard for them to find other hospitals at this juncture.  Local residents have also voiced their concerns and emphasized an urgent need for timely medical interventions. Hajra Bano, a patient from Below Pulwama, while endorsing the investigation into a recent incident at the private hospital, stressed the importance of reconsidering the closure of the operation theater.  “This decision has severely impacted patient treatment,” she said and demanded a detailed investigation to clarify the facts besides recommendations of preventive measures for the future. The closure of the operation theatre comes on the heels of previous challenges faced by the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic when Muhammadiyah Nursing Home was recognized for its effective response and quality care.  In light of a patient’s death, the district administration had announced sealing the operation theatre until the completion of the investigation.
