Jammu Tawi: The Girls Hostels at the University of Jammu celebrated Independence Week with great enthusiasm, culminating in a vibrant and spirited Tiranga Yatra on the 78th year of Independence. The
event was aimed to foster a deep sense of patriotism among the boarders, staff, and university officials, providing a platform for everyone to come together and celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day with
the pledge for a Viksit Bharat. The highlight of the celebrations was a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in which hundreds
of boarders from Girls Hostels participated which was followed by a Pledge for a Viksit Bharat and many
activities were organized where boarders and staff of Girls’ Hostels showcased their patriotic fervor
through performances of patriotic songs, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), folk songs, spirited slogans and
activities.
In her motivational address, Prof. Shashi Manhas, Provost of Girls Hostels, reflected on India’s
remarkable journey since gaining independence, emphasizing how the world now looks to India as a
source of inspiration and opportunity. All participants took a pledge of “Hamara Sankalp Viksit
Bharat” with Dr Chinmoyee Maharana in presence of wardens and resident wardens including Dr.
Meenakshi, Dr. Skarma, Dr. Sushma and others.
An interactive session was held as part of the celebrations, featuring contributions from key
hostel figures, including Provost of Girls Hostels; all the Wardens, Resident Wardens, Office Assistants
and staff of all the four girls’ hostels.
