Jammu Tawi, Sep 26: In a major development, the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on Education, Women, Children Youth and Sports has appreciated and endorsed the Design Your Degree initiative of the University of Jammu.
Notably, the Parliamentary Standing Committee visited J&K on September 1, 2023 and interacted with various stakeholders wherein Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu had made a detailed presentation before the visiting Parliamentary delegation.
The Parliamentary Committee after taking a comprehensive view of Design Your Degree initiatives of the University of Jammu has appreciated the same and also recommended to the University Grants Commission to include the same into the National Curriculum framework, said the official spokesman.
He said that the report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee which was published on September 25, 2023 reads “UGC should also take up the ‘Design Your Degree' initiative of the University of Jammu and look after the feasibility and promotion.
It may review the National Curriculum framework in compliance with the recommendation of the National Education Policy and to accommodate new innovative ideas such as ‘Design Your Degree.”
Commenting on the development, Vice Chancellor extended gratitude to Chairman, DRPSC on EWCY&S, Vivek Thakur for recognizing the value and potential of Design Your Degree.
“Their endorsement reinforces the dedication of the University in delivering quality education that prepares students of the University for the challenges of the future,” he said and expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor, University of Jammu and Vice Chairman Higher Education Council UTJ&K, Prof. Dinesh Singh for their unwavering support and guidance.
Pertinent to mention that UGC, Chairman Prof Mamdala Jagadesh Kumar during the Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Samagam 2023 at IECC Paragati Maidan, New Delhi has also appreciated the innovative initiative – Design Your Degree Program launched by the University of Jammu.
It is further to mention that the “Design Your Degree” program at the University of Jammu represents a paradigm shift in higher education, empowering students to tailor their academic journey to their individual interests and career goals, said the spokesman.
He said that the Design Your Degree places a strong emphasis on equipping students with practical skills that are in demand in today's growing job market, preparing them for successful careers.
