Ex-Postal employee sentenced to 3 yrs imprisonment for embezzling customers’ Rs. 2.5 Lac

Srinagar, Mar 31 (KNS): A former employee of Postal department has been sentenced by CBI's anti corruption court to three years of imprisonment and fine of Rs 3 lakh for embezzling bills of BSNL customers 14 years ago.

Former Post Master of Sangrama Post Office in Baramulla district, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, had embezzled 2.5 lakh rupees which were paid by BSNL customers as their bills.

The complaint was filed by BSNL before CBI 14 years ago in 2003 against Lone for embezzling the money.

After investigation by the CBI, the anti-corruption court of the investigation agency pronounced the judgement by the Anti-Corruption Judge Y P Kotwal.

Lone and another accomplice Fayaz Ahmad Najar had made bill book and would issue face receipts to the BSNL customers for their bills.

However, the court let Najar free as he CBI could not produce any evidence against him.

CBI sources said that the investigation into the case was conducted by DSP Rafiq Ahmad. (KNS)
