Shreya among 5 J&K fencers in team for World Cup

, Dec 07: Considering their ranking in the 30th Junior Fencing Championship held at Cuttack in Odisha in
July last, the Fencing Association of (FAI) has selected five fencers from J&K for the Junior Sabre Cup at
Germany from December 17 to December 18.
As per the details provided by the Adhoc Committee of the J&K Amateur Fencing Association, three male and two
female fencers have been from the UT have been made part of the Indian team.
These selected fencers are Lakshay Sharma, Suryansh Sharma, Mayank Sharma, Shreya gupta and Kritarthi Kotwal.
“Though the FAI has selected five fencers from J&K for the important event, still the participation is yet to be confirmed
by the fencers, the reason being huge cost of participation, Rs 1.60 lakh (including registration fee) for each fencer. This
event is not being sponsored by the Government in anyway, except for allowing the team for the event,” informed convenor
of the Adhoc Committee, Rashid Ahmed.
In total, 12 fencers are there in the team already announced by the FAI. And, now, in case of any selected player
dropping, the next in the list of ranking shall represent the country in the World Cup, added Rashid.
