Unidentified gunmen loot J&K Bank in Shopian
Srinagar, Feb 16 (KNS): The frequent incidents of robbery in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branches seems to be unending in the Valley as unknown gunmen continue to decamp with the public money from the State's top bank.
This time unidentified gunmen Thursday morning at around 11: 00 in the morning fired some gunshots and entered into J&K Bank's Turkawangan branch in Shopian district. According to officials, they decamped with three lakh four thousand rupees.
Police said the unidentified gunmen who were four in number opened fire outside the J&K Bank in Turkawangan village before entering into the bank.
“At least three lakh rupees were looted by the unidentified gunmen in the bank,” the officials added.
“The militants are involved in bank robbery. Looting public money is no bravery,” Director General of Police (DGP), S P Vaid told.
Vaid said those who claim themselves Mujahedeens came looted the bank in Shopian.
“The four gangsters had opened fire and looted the bank in Shopian. We have started investigation in this regard and the person involved in the heinous crime will be dealt with strictly,” the DGP added.
There have been steep rise in such incidents in the past four months. However, it is the first such incident in this year.
On November 21, 2016, unidentified gunmen robbed a bank in Charar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir's Budgam district, decamping with nearly Rs 13 lakh cash, police said.
On Dec 15, 2016, suspected militants looted about Rs 10 lakhs from a bank in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Police had said that a group of four gunmen barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Rantipora in Pulwama district and decamped with 9.84 lakh rupees.
On December 8, 2016, unidentified gunmen had looted Rs 13.38 lakhs from Jammu and Bank branch at Arihal in Pulwama district.
