Will separatists accept Rajnath Singh's offer for talks?
Jammu Tawi, March 23 (KIP):- Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti. feels
emboldened by the latest nod by the Government of India that it was
ready for holding talks with all stakeholders. That is why she has
stated that she wished the Government of India to take bold decisions
vis-à-vis Kashmir.
Is the situation in Kashmir conducive for motivating the Union
Home Minister, Rajnath Singh to announce that the Government of India
(GoI) was ready to talk to all stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The government was ready to talk to all stakeholders in Jammu and
Kashmir to normalize the situation there,” according to Rajnath.
To questions over the situation in Kashmir, he said, “We are ready to
talk to everyone. The entire nation wants the situation to normalize
in Kashmir. We are ready to cooperate with everyone and have taken all
initiatives in this regard.”
He noted that he had visited the Kashmir valley thrice during the
unrest last year.
“When there was unrest, I went to the Kashmir valley thrice. I have
spoken each time. The government wants the Kashmir situation to
improve. We have taken every initiative,” he said adding, “I also want
to inform the House that there has been no dearth of official
communication”.
Talking about steps and schemes initiated to normalise the situation
in Jammu and Kashmir, the Home Minister said he does not, at the same
time, dismiss the work done by the previous governments.
“We never want to take credit of anyone. We don't claim that we alone
can improve the situation and solve the Kashmir problem. The support
of every political party and every citizen is required to solve the
Kashmir problem,” he said.
Rajnath said the Modi government was trying to take forward the
initiatives taken by previous governments.
Besides mainstream political leaders what is import ant I s the
need for resumption of the process of dialogue between the separatists
and the centre which stands stalled since 2006.What is to be probed
before opening talks is to fin d out whether all separatist groups
are willing to hold talks. In this connection senior leader of
hardliners, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, may not be interested in holding
talks wit h the Government of India because he has set his one point
agenda that talks should be held wit h Pakistan also and the issue be
resort through implementation of the U N resolution. This will make
things difficult for the centre. (KIP)
