6,000 JK youth applied for as many Delhi Police constable posts

Srinagar, May 24: Six thousand youth from and have applied for around 6,000 constable positions in Delhi Police, officials said.

The applicants are among the 18 lakh youth, boys and girls, who have applied for various posts across , they claimed.

To facilitate the recruitment in the respective states, an official from the Delhi Police's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) office said that a DCP for each state was specially appointed by them to look after the process.

The state police departments, he said, also assisted the Delhi Police.

Negating news reports that the physical test of “only 50 youth” from Kashmir was cancelled due to “poor response” from the valley youth, an official from the Delhi Police's Recruitment Cell said that the applicants from Kashmir “shifted to Jammu” to appear in the test.

“The physical test was not cancelled. Actually, a common test centre was set up in Jammu for the applicants from both the regions. As majority of the applicants were Jammu-based, the candidates from Kashmir moved there to appear in the physical test,” the official said.

Kashmir's Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Central Kashmir, Ghulam Hasan Bhat, said the Jammu and Kashmir Police assisted in the recruitment of the youth.

A news report in a leading daily recently claimed that after almost drawing blank in the valley, the Delhi Police cancelled the physical endurance test.

Quoting a police officer crying “tension” in the valley, the report said that there was a “lukewarm” response by the valley aspirants to the posts.

Booking a stadium to conduct the test in Srinagar earlier, authorities later “cancelled” the booking, the report had said.

The application process for the posts concluded in October-November last year. Physical test centers for the posts were set up in 22 states and union territories.

A team of 50 police personnel, headed by a DCP-level officer and three ACP-level officers, conducted the tests in Jammu between May 8 and May 17.

The selection process will conclude after an online written examination to be held in the coming months.
