The nation especially those affected by the floods and landslides across the northern Indian states including Jammu and Kashmir must be feeling alienated mulling the fact that despite India having a dedicated PM Cares Fund for combating such a calamity, the people manning this fund, raised by the very same people of the country through sharing parts of their salaries and by giving donations, are not announcing any relief through this so-called public fund.
It is intriguing that for what purpose this fund will be used when due to lack of financial support thousands of people across the three states and one Union Territory viz Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and J&K are suffering badly with no major relief from the centre.
It is pertinent to mention that the aforesaid relief fund was reportedly created for undertaking and supporting relief or assistance of any kind relating to a public health emergency or any other kind of emergency, calamity or distress, either man-made or natural, including the creation or upgradation of healthcare or pharmaceutical facilities, other necessary infrastructure, funding relevant research or any other type of support, and to render financial assistance, provide grants of payments of money or take such other steps as may be deemed necessary by the Board of Trustees to the affected population.
It is intriguing that despite colossal dilemma which the affected population is confronting today in floods and cloudbursts ravaged states, the helmsmen are not moved and having a view that the people of the affected states do not qualify to get a relief from this coveted relief fund raised in the name of Prime Minister of India.
It is worthwhile to notice that this fund was created keeping in mind the need for having a dedicated national fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected but at the time when a huge lot of population is suffering there is no word from those running the affairs of the country about opening up this relief source to bail out the people in misery and distress due to unprecedented deluge.
