Reasi, May 17: While the government of Jammu and Kashmir continues to claim success in implementing the “Har Ghar Jal” initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the ground reality in Sub-Division Pouni’s Panchayat Kothiyan and Village Suddin (Ward No. 9 of District Reasi paints a different picture.
Residents of these areas have been struggling for drinking water for over a month and a half. Despite the scheme being shown as “complete” on paper, local people alleged that they have received no benefit from it.
Talking to The Northline, the aggrieved residents expressed frustration, stating that their repeated complaints and calls to concerned officials have gone unheard.
They said, even when they attempt to reach out to officials, they are met with indifference or evasive replies.
“Everything is completed on paper, but there is no water in our taps,” said one resident. The water tankers sent by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, they claimed, only reach homes if there is a personal recommendation or political influence involved.
“This is not the implementation we were promised,” said another resident of Ward No. 9. “Tankers are being sent selectively. If you approach, you get water. If not, you suffer.”
Meanwhile, sources said that despite the construction of water storage tanks and official claims of full implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the area, residents are questioning when the administration will wake up from what they call a “deep slumber.”
They said that the issue has reportedly been raised with officials from the Sub-Division Pouni and even the higher authorities in Reasi, but no substantial action has been taken yet.
The aggrieved locals urged upon the senior officers of the administration to intervene immediately and hold accountable those who are neglecting public welfare. “If such schemes are only limited to files and formalities, then what’s the objective or use ?” residents asked.
