Volcanic Ash Disrupts Air Traffic: Flights Cancelled, Delayed at Delhi Airport

New Delhi: At least seven international flights were cancelled and more than 10 delayed at Delhi airport on Tuesday as ash plumes from Ethiopia’s volcanic eruption disrupted global aviation routes. Air India alone has cancelled 13 flights since Monday, officials said.

Ash clouds from the Hayli Gubbi volcano continue to affect flight operations, with reports indicating their drift toward western India. According to airport officials, a total of seven international arrivals and departures were cancelled while 12 overseas flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, which handles over 1,500 daily flight movements.

Other Indian carriers had not issued updates as of Tuesday. On Monday, the DGCA instructed airlines to avoid volcanic ash-affected zones and flight levels, and to revise routing and fuel planning based on the latest advisories. (Agencies)
