Lucknow: Days after the arrest of Jamaluddin, alias Chhangur Baba, the Uttar Pradesh Police under its operation ‘Mission Asmita’, announced on Saturday the arrest of 10 suspects from six states for allegedly running a covert network involved in illegal religious conversions, online radicalisation, and terror financing.
The arrests stemmed from a probe into the March disappearance of two sisters from Agra, leading authorities to uncover a multi-state syndicate reportedly using tactics similar to ISIS-style radical recruitment and “love jihad” schemes, according to DGP Rajeev Krishna.
The network, police said, had links to banned organisations like the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), with alleged financial channels traced to the dark web and foreign handlers, including Pakistan-based operatives.

Authorities are verifying identities, with two listings of ‘Mohammad Ali’ from Jaipur raising possible duplication.
The FIR, originally filed at Agra’s Sadar Bazar police station, invoked Sections 87, 111(3), and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. It was later escalated to the district cyber police for a tech-driven investigation.
The Agra region emerged as a nerve center, with digital and human intelligence pointing to the development of radicalisation modules and fund disbursement nodes.
Authorities say further arrests and deep-dive financial tracking are underway as part of ongoing counter-radicalisation efforts.
