Many swimmers from J&K must be thinking that the swimming pool which used to exist at MA Stadium was a better option for them because the one which saw the start of construction work in 2019 at the same place where the earlier sports facility was located has become a distant dream with no signs of early completion coming to fore.
It is really unfortunate that despite tall claims of development and up-gradation of sports infrastructure in J&K especially after the year 2019, the work on this sporting facility has been moving on with snail’s pace and if the things will continue to roll out with same pace, the completion of this edifice will become near to impossible.
Going by the claims of the governments since 2019 that there was no dearth of funds, it becomes difficult to understand that why this prestigious project is allowed to linger on as a lot of work is still to be accomplished to realize the dream of swimmers to once again show their swimming skills in this water body, which is devoid of water since 2019, thanks to those who showcased green pastures to swimmers of J&K before dismantling the older swimming facility.
The inordinate delay in the construction of the aforesaid swimming pool can be attributed to a combination of factors. The primary responsibility lies with the authorities and officials overseeing the project, including the contractors, local government, and administrative bodies. Delays may be caused by issues such as inefficient project management, lack of coordination, insufficient funding, or bureaucratic red tape.
All said and done, accountability should be placed on those responsible for planning, execution, and monitoring the project. As the J&K has a new government in place, it becomes imperative for the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take the lead and provide things which this project requires to see the light of the day as soon as possible.
Reportedly, the new date of the completion of this project is somewhere in March, it becomes necessary for all the stakeholders to take adequate steps to ensure the opening of this sports facility on the stipulated date as the losses incurred by the UT’s swimmers due to the absence of this facility are colossal and therefore things should be accomplished on war footing to make this swimming pool a reality sooner than later.
