Srinagar, Aug 22: As M-pox infections rise globally, Kashmir's premier healthcare facility is ramping up its preparedness. SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar has established a dedicated isolation center with 6 beds currently, which can be scaled up to 30 beds if needed.
The isolation unit has been activated to safely treat any potential M-pox patients separately from other patients. Testing capabilities and treatment protocols have also been strengthened in line with expert guidelines. A round-the-clock control room and helpline have been launched for public assistance.
Extensive guidelines have been issued for frontline workers to screen arrivals and ensure infection control at transit hubs. Adequate supplies of personal protective equipment are on standby.
An awareness campaign will soon roll out across digital platforms to educate the public on M-pox symptoms and prevention. Experts from SKIMS' microbiology and infectious diseases departments will address common concerns.
During a review meeting, SKIMS Director Dr. M. Ashraf Ganie received asituation update from senior doctors. Deans, principals and other headsapprised him of the preparatory measures and rising global trends.
With cross-functional coordination, SKIMS aims to promptly detect and manage any local M-pox cases, protecting public health. Ongoing reviews will optimize response in step with emerging needs.
