Jammu Tawi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at eight locations across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, in connection with a terror infiltration case. The raids, which targeted districts including Reasi, Doda, Udhampur, Ramban, and Kishtwar, are part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
The operation follows the arrest of Muneer Ahmad Banday, a key conspirator involved in a 2020 narco-terror case. Banday, who had been on the run for four years, is accused of being linked to Pakistan-based terrorist organizations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM). These groups are allegedly involved in smuggling narcotics into India to fund terrorist activities.
The 2020 conspiracy was uncovered when Jammu and Kashmir police intercepted a vehicle at Kairo Bridge in Handwara, Kupwara district, seizing 2 kilograms of heroin and ₹20 lakh in cash. Investigators found that the money was intended to finance terror operations through a network of overground workers (OGWs) in the region.
The NIA is continuing to dismantle the narco-terror network and address the root causes of terror funding in the Kashmir Valley and beyond. Authorities say the crackdown is a crucial step in curbing cross-border terrorism and its financial support systems.
