    Tame Criminals, Curb Crime

The law enforcement agencies should focus on containing crime in Jammu and places falling in its periphery because lately things have deteriorated as far as law and order is concerned. Thefts have become a daily affair, chain snatching and purse snatching a common site, and many crimes are being reported from the new constructed Ring Road, making it imperative to take action by strengthening policing in the region.

The latest incident of gangsters allegedly opening fire at a joint police team in Gandhi Nagar area and escaping from the spot following a brief exchange of fire is something unprecedented as such crimes were never reported in the region in the past.

There is no doubt in the fact that the alarming rise in youths falling prey to the drugs has also contributed to an increase in crime in the region and the Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign started by LG Manoj Sinha has been combating the menace quite effectively.

Considering the rise in crime graph, the men in khaki will have to gird up their loins to contain the crime or else Jammu will also fall in the category of other big metro cities where crime and life go side by side with people taking such incidents normally without showing any restiveness or anger as this has become part and parcel of their lives. Till now, the cities and towns in J&K were much better if one compares crime scenario with big metro cities across the country but with population expansion and certain other aspects, it seems that police will have to take extraordinary steps to stop Jammu and other cities in J&K from becoming crime prone as things have already started escalating in the region.

As people of Jammu city have full faith in the working of police, therefore the cops should remain proactive in containing crime by relying more on local intelligence, increasing the frequency of foot patrolling, mobilizing police beats and through enhancing deputation of police personnel in the areas prone to such crimes. This action needs to be taken as soon as possible because things are deteriorating with each passing day and early remedial measures are the need of hour.

The firing incident is a stark reminder that if police will remain complacent against criminals things will soon become out of control therefore a strong action is needed to maintain law and order and restore crime-free environment in Jammu region, which was once the main characteristics of this city popularly known as ‘City of Temple’.
