The “Swasth Bharat Yatra”, launched on October 16 as part of World Food Day at Leh, today reached Kathua with a warm reception to the team of the campaign including cyclists by Food Safety team of the district.
The Yatra with the theme “Eat Right India” was launched to engage and enable citizens to improve their health and well-being by making the right food choices as the movement is built on two broad pillars of ‘Eat Healthy' and ‘Eat Safe'.
Joint Director FSSAI, Dr. A C Mishra, who was also participating in the campaign, said the movement can grow organically as a self-perpetuating movement, co-owned and co-led by various partners using the broad framework and resources put together by professionals and experts in the field of food and nutrition. He added that its aim was to cut down salt/sugar and oil consumption by 30% in three years so that life style disorders which are major cause for Diabetes, Hypertension and Heart related diseases can be taken care of.
As a part of the three-day event to be held in the district, Prabhat Pheri will be taken out besides various programmes highlighting Eat Healthy, Eat Safe, Eat Fortified and No Food waste shall be organized to spread the message at the maximum.
After receiving the campaign baton from Food Safety Department Samba today, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Kathua, Pankaj Soni, briefed the gathering about the objective of the campaign ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra'. He informed that to promote ‘Eat Right India' movement, Food Safety team is organizing many activities and today's function was part of these activities, which will last till December 2, in Kathua. He said the yatra has reached Kathua by covering a distance of about 1500 km from Leh to Srinagar to Jammu and then to Kathua.
Food Safety officers, Chranjiv Kumar and Vikas Gupta besides large number of audience comprising college and school students and NCC Cadets from Government Degree College Hiranagar were present on the occasion.
