New Delhi, Oct 28: The Delhi Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for his alleged involvement in espionage activities and a fake passport syndicate that was being run from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, Mohammad Adil Hussaini, also known by several aliases including Syed Adil Hussain, Nasimuddin, and Syed Adil Hussaini, was nabbed from Seemapuri in Delhi two days ago. Police said he was in contact with a nuclear scientist based abroad and had visited several countries, including Pakistan.
A police source revealed that Adil managed to obtain three identity cards of a sensitive government installation using forged documents. “Adil and his brother, Akhtar Hussaini, are suspected of sharing sensitive information with foreign entities and of procuring multiple Indian passports using fake papers,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.
According to officials, the forgery network was being operated from Jamshedpur, where fake identity cards and passports were created with counterfeit materials. During the search, police recovered one genuine and two forged passports from Adil’s possession.
He has been booked under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 318 (cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), and 340 (using forged documents as genuine). The case was registered on October 26, officials said.
Police further confirmed that Adil’s brother, Akhtar, has been arrested by Mumbai Police. He had travelled to several Gulf nations and was also involved in acquiring the forged identity cards. Investigators are now working to determine how many people obtained fake passports through the racket.
Adil was produced before a court, which remanded him to seven days of police custody for further questioning, ACP Kushwah added. (Agencies)
