In a batting masterclass, Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 25 runs in Bengaluru last night. The match broke multiple records as a whopping 549 runs were scored, with batsmen on both sides enjoying the batting paradise conditions.
Travis Head was the star of the show, smashing a magnificent 41-ball hundred studded with 9 fours and 8 sixes. He put SRH on the path of a mammoth total right from the beginning. Coming in at number 3, Heinrich Klaasen played a very important supporting role, smashing 6s all around the ground in his 31-ball 67.
Abdul Samad's quickfire 37 aided the late flourish as SRH amassed a monstrous 287/3. It was their highest ever total in the history of the IPL. In reply, Bengaluru lost wickets at regular intervals but kept themselves in the game thanks to a brilliant 83 by Dinesh Karthik. But with the asking rate constantly mounting, it was too big a task in the end as they fell short by 25 runs despite Karthik's heroics.
The record score and a batting feast ensured an entertaining match for the fans. While the bowlers had a nightmares, it highlighted the gulf in strength between the two teams with SRH boasting a stronger bowling attack to defend a massive total. The win gives them a big boost in the points table while RCB's troubles continued with their sixth loss in seven games.
