Lately the Jammu region has witnessed a disturbing trend of some of the Spa centres indulging in illegal activities and immoral acts as police has to carry out raids in Jammu and Udhampur districts to contain the menace.
In this context, police in Jammu District had reportedly raided 20 spa centres in the month of January after a victim from Bihar levelled serious allegations of rape and illegal confinement against the owner of one of the spas. Besides the aforesaid case, the police and the civil administration had also received separate complaints regarding running of some illegal and immoral activities within the spa centres.
Earlier in November last year, District Police Udhampur had raided and sealed five illegal spa centres in Udhampur town, which were being run without necessary permits and licenses.
As Jammu region has seen such health wellness centres surfacing with unprecedented pace, there is dire need for the administration to monitor things associated with these wellness centres especially after a series of complaints were received against these in the past, and scope of allowing immoral activities under the guise of being spas.
As the recent raids by the police in the aforesaid districts have uncovered alarming discrepancies in the operations of the spa centres, it has become necessary to go for a thorough reevaluation of the regulatory framework governing these businesses to ensure that they adhere strictly to legal and ethical standards.
The prime objective of spa and wellness centres should be to focus on the health, beauty, and relaxation of their customers but what is seen in recent times is disturbing because certain establishments have been crossing the limits which need to be curbed by the law enforcement agencies on priority.
All said and done, it is crucial to ensure that these businesses remain what they are supposed to be and should not be allowed to run immoral and illegal activities within their premises.
It is therefore imperative that civil administration and the police should enforce stricter regulations, carry out regular inspections, and promote public awareness to make sure that no one is exploited in such centres and the business remains confined to what has been allowed and permitted without compromising ethical and moral standards.
