    Soldier killed in Udhampur Encounter; Massive Hunt for Terrorists On

    Jammu Tawi: A soldier injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Udhampur’s Seoj Dhar forest on Friday evening succumbed to his injuries, officials said on Saturday.

    The encounter broke out when terrorists opened fire on a joint search party of the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Dudu-Basantgarh area along the Udhampur–Bhaderwah border. The soldier was evacuated to a hospital but could not survive.

    Security forces maintained a night-long cordon and resumed the search operation at daybreak. Officials said two to three terrorists are suspected to be hiding in the dense forest area.

    Reinforcements with drones and sniffer dogs have been rushed from Udhampur and Doda, and a massive search was underway till last reports. No fresh contact has been established with the terrorists so far, they added.
