Sharvari Wagh’s Munjya off to stronger start than Kaif’s Merry Christmas

“Sharvari Wagh’s latest supernatural thriller Munjya sees a promising opening at the box office”

The horror comedy film Munjya, starring Sharvari Wagh and Mona Singh in lead roles, had a surprisingly good start at the ticket counters on its opening day. Despite facing negative reviews from critics, early estimates suggest the Dinesh Vijan production raked in an estimated Rs. 4.21 crores on day one.

Box office tracking firms note the film witnessed over 21% occupancy across theaters nationally. Centers like Mumbai saw crowds of around 27% for the shows of Munjya. Other major regions like Delhi-NCR also noted a healthy turnout of approximately 20% on opening day.

Interestingly, these numbers for Munjya already exceed the day one collections of some previously released films. Katrina Kaif’s romantic drama Merry Christmas had made roughly Rs. 2.3 crores on its first day. Similarly, Manoj Bajpayee’s Bhaiyya Ji opened with around Rs. 1.35 crores.

Though Munjya lacks big commercial stars, its suspenseful story and genre seems to have found an audience. Especially noteworthy is lead actress Sharvari’s performance in her first major role, which has received praise. The movie also benefits from production house Maddock Films’ experience with the supernatural genre from hits like Stree and Bhediya.

With no major competition this week and positive word of mouth, Munjya is expected to enjoy a profitable opening weekend. Its producers and cast will be hoping audiences continue turning up and help make this low-budget thriller a surprise box office success story.
