Jammu Tawi, May 29: To overcome the prevailing power crisis in the Jammu region in the peak summer season, especially in rural areas, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Government has directed the Power Development Department (PDD) to be ready and be prepared to ensure regular power supply amid all odds by taking all possible measures.

There are reports that lots of Power Distribution Transformers all across the rural areas of Jammu region are being damaged/burnt on a daily basis in the extreme heat conditions prevailing all across Jammu since the last more than a week.

The reliable sources said that there are around 70-80 damaged Distribution Transformers of different capacities which have been awaiting repairs at the Central Workshop at Transport Nagar, Jammu.

The damaged Distribution Transformers are from different rural areas of Jammu like Akhnoor, RS Pura, Bishnah, Samba, Kathua and other rural areas of Jammu.

The Lieutenant Governor (LG), Manoj Sinha, has directed the PDD to take all necessary steps to make sure that people of Jammu do not face any inconvenience due to power failure in peak summer season.

“We have a buffer stock of 100 Distribution Transformers to supply them to the different needed areas of Jammu region,” Superintendent Engineer, Anil Verma, informed the Northlines.

Meanwhile, sources said, “The LG, Manoj Sinha, has directed that Distribution Transformer to any required area must be sent within 8 hours failing which action will be taken against the concerned authorities”.

It may be mentioned that most of the rural areas of Jammu region have been reeling under severe power crisis as there are power cuts of more than 7-8 hours a day.
