Security beefed up in valley ahead of 15 August

Srinagar, Aug 10 (KNS): Authorities have sounded high alert across the valley while tight security arrangements have been made in and around Bakshi stadium where the main function of I-Day will be held.

Apart from Bakshi stadium security has been beefed up in entire valley.

Sources said that Police, paramilitary forces have intensified patrolling. Vehicle checking has also been intensified and pedestrians are being frisked. People are also being asked for their identity cards.

Top Police officer wished not to be named told KNS that high security arrangements have been put in place in valley and the senior police officers have been assigned the job of monitoring the suspicious movement in the city.

“Sharp shooters on the top of various buildings in different areas around the stadium will be put in place for security reasons to stop any untoward incident,” he said.

In Srinagar policemen joined by CRPF troopers had erected almost various points to carry out the search of the people and the vehicles. Vehicles coming from other districts were being checked at Parimpora, Bemina,Qamrwari and other places. The I-Day functions would also be held at district headquarters including Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Islamabad, Shopian and Budgam. Police and paramilitary CRPF troopers have been asked to remain on high alert in the districts to avoid and untoward incident.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Maisuma, Dalgate and other area of Srinagar to thwart any untoward incident. Armored vehicles of police and paramilitary forces were seen at many road junctions.

Security has also been beefed up in north areas of Sopore, Kupwara, Baramulla Bandipora and Handwara. Army also carried out checking of vehicles in different areas.

Pulwama, Shopian, Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir also witnessed tight security.

Meanwhile when contacted senior officials of the police said that they are taking all the proactive measures to ensure that the celebrations of I-Day pass off peacefully and the Security forces have been alerted to prevent any untoward incident. (KNS)
