Sadhguru
Science has done incredible things in the last hundred years, no question. The comfort and convenience that all of us are enjoying today is essentially because of the outcome of scientific endeavor on the planet. At the same time, the limitation of science has been in trying to achieve everything through physical means by measuring physical quantities, going by the physical laws. But the physical is like the peel of the fruit, it has no purpose of its own. The peel is useful only as a protective layer to the fruit. Once the fruit is eaten, the peel goes to the trashcan.
Scientists have been building a simulated brain. Looking at the physical mechanics of the brain, the neuronal function and the waves that are flowing is fantastic because of the complexity and sophistication of the brain. It is the gadget, no question. But the complexity of what is happening is beyond the physical mechanics. Even this brain can be manufactured with something as simple as a piece of a carrot or bread. So, there is an intelligence within which can create a brain. Why are we ignoring that intelligence?
The Intellect Is Not Enough to Access Life
Whatever you can think up is in no way comparable to that intelligence which is creating this body, which is making a flower out of mud, mud into food, food into human body and human body into mud again; which is making the planets go round, and the galaxies function that which is the very basis of creation. Whatever kind of very smart thoughts you come up with, whatever kind of equations or formulas you have produced are all attempts to understand the intelligence of that which is the source of creation.
I am in no way trying to discredit the tremendous effort of science. But if knowing is the purpose, then by using the intellect we will know the surface of everything but never the real source or the core of everything. However big we think is the data that you and I have gathered, in terms of the cosmos, it is a miniscule. It is really not of any consequence. From this miniscule of data that we have gathered, we are generating some thought which could be useful in creating a few things, which could, in turn, be useful fundamentally to the enhancement of our survival process, but it does not give us access to life.
An Inner Science
What you think is science is just an attempt to understand the intelligence of the Creator. What you call technology is just a measly imitation of the technologies of life that already exist. So, what you think is human intelligence the logical intelligence is not comparable to the intelligence that is the basis of creation.
With the methodology employed by science, it is not one lifetime's effort. Even if you come for a million lifetimes, you will still not know because the phenomenon of creation is such that as you are studying it, it will multiply into a million more. The same things can become so elaborate. This is what is happening to science. When looked into what you thought was one thing, you found a million. When you looked into that million, it became a billion. This is going on endlessly because that is the nature of creation.
If only scientists, who have pursued things so far into physical reality, pay a little attention to the most fundamental physicality, which is themselves, if they spend an equal amount of time turning inward rather than solely looking through a telescope or a microscope, I think something phenomenal could come out of it.
