New Delhi, Dec 9: Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as per an official notification from the Centre’s Cabinet Committee on Monday. Malhotra, a 1990-batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer, will take over from Shaktikanta Das, whose term ends on Tuesday. Malhotra will be the 26th governor of the central bank.
Malhotra was appointed as Secretary (Revenue) in October 2022, succeeding Tarun Bajaj. He holds a degree in computer science engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
With over 33 years of experience, Malhotra has worked across various sectors, including power, finance and taxation, information technology, and mining. Prior to his current role, he served as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.
