‘Sanatan’ under attack; the Reverberations ?

By Rameshwar Singh Jamwal

The controversy created by Udhey Nidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and one of the ministers in his cabinet and the subsequent virulent attacks on Sanatan Dharma, or on its modern version Hindu religion, by almost all major constituents of I.N.D.I Alliance is unlikely to subside so soon. It will continue to hog limelight till General Elections in 2024 and may be beyond also, and will have cascading effects on the political fortunes of many political parties having stakes in North, West and East and can change the narrative of South India's as well, if we go by the deeply religious and intellectual thought process of South India. Many political parties from the I.N.D.I Alliance, especially Congress have not realized the deep hurt it has caused to millions of Indians, who may not be having any political leanings and these parties will be blown off the political horizon with the kind of response, these millions of Indians, having no voice at the moment, are going to give to such acerbic tongued attacks going on Hindu or Sanatan psyche for the last few months, from some of the leading voices of these parties.

Without going much deeper into the political impact or the reasons of such politics, I will go into the other angle of the controversy as to why such attacks on the psyche of the nation are being made, who are such persons and why they are doing it. After having visited almost the entire breath of the country, from North to South and East to West, I can vouch that India is still very much attached to its ethos and values, except for a minority of people, who do not believe in such faith or may be, they are having some vested interest in attacking the sentiments of a vast majority of the populace. But this minority group, is setting the agenda for the next General Election, at the cost of Congress, due to its weakness and lack of vision, and it will have to pay the heaviest of price for such misdemeanours of its alliance partners.

We have heard some students in JNU claiming to be the descendants of ‘Mahishasur', the demon Bhagwati Durga is believed to have killed, or those praising Ravana and worshipping him and they are rightly claiming to be so. In my opinion, when such demonic forces were defeated or killed, in the Satyug, Treta or Dvapar Yugas, it was not a general massacre of their clansmen. Only those fighting in the field were killed but their minor children, their widows, the vast majority of the civilian population engaged in other trades, having the same Tamsic Vrittis, survived and for the last several thousands of years, they have multiplied and are now in a sizeable number. It is these offshoots, which are now creating trouble for tawith their diabolic designs. Bhagwad Gita and Sankhya Philosopy amply describes the nature of such people, according to which all people in this have three qualities, Satvic, Rajsic and Tamsic and it is the interplay of these qualities which determines the nature of some one. In Chapters 14-16 of Bhagwad Gita, Lord Krishna has enumerated in detail these vrittis, their effects on the nature of an individual when the Tamsic Vritti overpowers the other two vrittis, the individual effects and its consequences and such forces are displaying the nature, as has been explained thousands of years ago in our literature. But since these are not the times when force could be used to annihilate or silence such people, it is the academic explanations and intellectual debates which could expose, isolate and silence such forces, which is not coming from the intellectual thought leaders of the country. Mere statements of condemnation from those heading Dharmarth Trust, the Santan Dharam Sabha and the ilk will not do, we need to explain the richness of our intellectual thought to our young generation, which has lead to the leading intellectuals from physicists like Frizof Capra, Erwin Schrodinger, Werner Heisenberg, Robbert Openheimer, Niels Bohr, Carl Sagan to praise our contribution in development of scientific thought process. The scientific world may still be struggling to believe or discard the Big Bang theory, the conundrum of generation of life from lifeless atoms, the composition and the role of dark matter or dark energy, the existence or non existence of other Universes, the nature and existence of soul, its migration after death and many such questions baffling the human mind but the fact that our literature, from Vedas to the six Philosophical schools, the Bhawad Gita and the Puranas offer a valid platform to counter these forces who know nothing about the essence of Sanatan Dharma and its contribution to the humankind.  The paradox of neuro-biologists to explain the storage of our memory, its retrieval in fraction of seconds, its display, the reason of most of our behaviour and that of our cells and genes and the questions about the inheritance of our intelligence and the regulation of life cycle of Trillions and Trillions of living creatures and this mind boggling task, is haunting many but we can get adequate cues for such quandaries from Sanatan Philosophy and dispel any misgivings about the Cosmos and its creations only from our philosophies. This lack of knowledge is called nescience or Avidya in our literature and its removal is possible only as per our philosophical thought, not by having University Degrees or by holding prominent political positions. The force responsible for creation and cessation of life energy, its migration and the inheritance of intelligence is still beyond the comprehension of Biologists or Psychologists and Charles Darwin's theory of Evolution of life is still not the complete theory, which many such non believers or those supporting them do not realize. As stated by Jean Piaget, human beings construct a personal understanding of the world, depending upon their level of thinking which came to be criticized but the fact remains that the biological basis of inheritance of intelligence is still unproved and the Theory of Mind by Phillip Gerrans has also been discarded by many and this complexity led Alfred Russel Wallace, the co discoverer of ‘Evolution by natural Selection' along with Darwin to turn towards spiritualism, which those having the vicissitudes against Santana Dharma won't realize.

But this massive task of making the country realize the importance and relevance of Sanatan Dharma lies on the shoulders of influential think tanks of the country, who can take the anti forces head on by an intellectual discourse and show way to the bewildered non believers and some others.
