Jammu Tawi: In a spiritual discourse in Mishriwala, Sadguru Madhuparamhans Ji Maharaj of Sahib Bandagi shared profound teachings on the transformative power of Naam. He explained that through the divine name, the soul is elevated from a state of ignorance, symbolized by a crow, to purity, represented by a swan, ultimately leading the soul to the immortal world. According to Sadguru Ji, this name has the power to prevent the soul from entering the cycle of rebirth, ensuring it does not return to the womb.
He highlighted that while many people read sacred texts like the Vedas, they fail to uncover the true secret of salvation, which is beyond the reach of mere intellectual knowledge. “No one is truly knowledgeable without understanding the soul,” he said, adding that once one grasps the essence of the soul, there is nothing more to know.
Sadguru Ji clarified that following a moral code and living a clean life, though important, does not guarantee salvation. “There is only one remedy to dispel darkness, and that is light,” he explained, emphasizing that without Naam, the soul cannot cross the ocean of life. Naam, he said, not only removes the fear of death but also transforms the intellect and protects one from the traps of time.
Addressing the notion of ascetic practices, Sadguru Ji critiqued the belief held by some that self-identification as Brahma (Aham Brahmasmi) or intense penance could lead to liberation. “If you are Brahma, how did you get trapped in Maya?” he asked, stressing that Naam is distinct from these practices. He added that no matter how much penance or yoga one does, liberation cannot be achieved without Naam.
Sadguru Ji further emphasized that although many people in the world practice charity, truthfulness, and hard work, these alone will not help one transcend the cycle of life and death. He pointed out that performing good deeds like donating wealth or going on pilgrimages may be beneficial but are insufficient for spiritual liberation.
He also noted the irony of the modern era, where even storytellers and well-meaning individuals claim to offer the name, but true Naam, as per Sadguru Ji, can only be obtained from enlightened saints. “People are not able to understand this secret,” he concluded, underscoring the importance of receiving Naam from a true spiritual guide for the soul’s ultimate transformation.
