Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept their playoff hopes alive by winning their fifth match in a row in IPL 2024. Against Delhi Capitals yesterday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, middle order batsmen Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal came up with match-winning performances to hand RCB another victory.
Patidar continued his golden run with the bat, stroking a regal fifty to propel RCB to a competitive total. He found the gaps with ease, scoring quickly through the V while also clearing the ropes a couple of times. His positive innings formed the backbone of RCB’s innings along with Will Jacks.
Delhi got off to a flying start in the chase but Dayal turned the game on its head with two early wickets. He dismissed the openers with different deliveries, applying the brakes effectively. Dayal returned later to remove the dangerous Axar Patel just when he was threatening to take the game away from RCB.
The total, though not the biggest, proved more than enough thanks to another inspired bowling effort. Ferguson was also among the wickets as Delhi fell well short of the target. For RCB, it was the perfect result to remain in the playoff race with five wins from their last five matches.
Virat Kohli, as usual, provided entertainment with the bat. He smashed the ball all around the park during his cameo before falling to his former India teammate. Kohli’s energy and passion lifts the team and fans each time he is on the field.
With this victory, RCB moves to sixth place on the points table. However, their playoff journey is far from over and they will need to keep winning to stand a chance. For Delhi, it was a significant blow to their playoff aspirations following this defeat.
